Back in 2014, I began developing and experimenting with concepts around the theme of domestic violence.
I discussed these ideas with film maker and collaborator Ruth Beni. The test pieces were purely for proof of concept, and unfinished, but adequate enough for the purposes of pitch material to sell the idea through. However, we were interrupted by a more urgently commissioned project and we set about developing that instead, which became the short film ‘All Of Us’.
We still plan to continue with the Trust project. In the meantime here are some work-in-progress tests depicting events in the start of a relationship.
This was to convey the female character in an outline as depicting an exterior fake personality, while the colour within describes her true inner feelings.
This describes the start of the relationship between a couple, which later would unravel and become dark and disturbing.
As above, but trying an alternative soundtrack.
Here the timings are being tightened up so the key poses snap from one to the next on the musical beats while keeping the action moving slowly in the direction of the next key pose. The result, hopefully is to create an unsettling atmosphere using simple graphic shapes, minimalist sets and a vibrant colour palette and spilt screens, to tell an all too familiar issue.
